ITraveling 70 km through the transverse valley of the Danube through the Swabian Alps will make you say, "Germany is beautiful!"

Route

  • Day 1 - Arrival
    Arrive in Donaueschingen-Aufen, distribution of bicycles and information. Unguarded, private car park at hotel.

  • Day 2 - Fridingen, 55 km, flat
    Ride on the valley floor from the source of the Danube to its infiltration point and further on to Fridingen.

  • Day 3 - Sigmaringen, 42 km
    The bicycle path opens up to narrow gorges, valleys, and solitary woodland meadows in the Obere Donau nature park. Riding through the park, you will reach the monastery town of Beuron and then Sigmaringen, the capital of the Hohenzollern State until 1918.

  • Day 4 - Marchtäler, 48 km
    Ride on, with the foothills of the Swabian Alps to your left and the extensive agricultural land of the Danube to your right, until you reach Mengen (castle), Riedlingen (timber-frame buildings) and the town of Obermarchtal.

  • Day 5 - Ulm, 62 km
    You ride over Ehingen and through the so-called Blautal (Blue Valley) to Germany's most beautiful karst spring, The Blautopf. Continue on to beautiful Ulm to see the world's highest church tower, tanning quarter, town hall, the "Schiefes Haus" (tilted house), and more.

  • Day 6 - Journey Home
    Return by train to Donaueschingen or extend your stay in Ulm.

Hotels

A superb ****hotel awaits you in Ulm; in Donaueschingen and in Obermarchtal, you will stay in excellent mid-range hotels, some with indoor swimming pool. Otherwise, you will stay in good mid-range ***hotels.

Cuisine

Daily breakfast buffet. Half board guests will enjoy a three-course menu. The hospitality of the inhabitants in these often solitary towns is worth mentioning!

Facts

Narrow gorges only accessible by bicycle or on foot are interspersed with magnificent cultural sights. The Danube bicycle path winds through the valley floor and is consistently flat with only two small rises. Our clients have rated it the most beautiful bicycle path in Europe for the last three years!
