The Danube bicycle path doesn.t end in Vienna! Only 282 kilometres separate the Austrian and Hungarian capitals and many interesting things lie along the way!

Starting Point and Destination: Vienna (pop. 1,7 mil.), Budapest (pop. 2,2 mil.)
Path: From Vienna to Bratislava and from Komarom to Esztergom on an embankment path. From Visegrad to Budapest on rarely—used side streets. Between on rural roads with little traffic.
To/From Journey: Underground parking in Vienna is included in the case you arrive by car.
Sights: Schlosshof, splendid palace of Maria Theresia (recently renovated at a cost of €230 mil.); Hainburg (most important city gate in Austria); Carnuntum (.active. Roman adventure park); Bratislava (pop. 402.000, castle, coronation church, palace, and more); GyöCathedral of St. Mary, Bishop.s castle); Komarom (divided city, 9 fortresses); Esztergom (cathedral with largest altar picture in the world and third—largest cupola in Europe); Visegrad (imperial city); Szentendre (artist colony); .Danube Knee.; Little Karpaten bend.

  • Day 1 — Arrival
    Arrival in Vienna, distribution on bicycles and informational packets. ***Gartenhotel Altmannsdorf

  • Day 2 — Petronell/Hainburg, 58 km
    Through the Donauauen national park, pass the Eckartsau and Orth castles, visit Schlosshof, and then continue on to Hainburg or Deutsch—Altenburg. For Saturday arrival, a ship cruises from Vienna to Hainburg (except May 18 and June 1) and bicycle tour to Schlosshof and the Roman park (37 km cycle, 2 hours ship). ***Hotel Marc Aurel

  • Day 3 — Bratislava, 27 km

  • Day 4 — Györ km cycle, 38 km train
    Ride on beautiful paths to the border between SK/H, then further on through Dunasziget and the nature reserve "kleine Schütt" to Mosonmagyaróvár. Continue by train to Györ. ***Hotel Famulus or similar

  • Day 5 — Komarom (H), 67 km
    Pedal on country roads to the H/SK border and continue on the Slovakian bank to Medved"ov, then on embankment paths into Baroque Èicov, then into the Slovakian/Hungarian border town of Komárom/Komárno. ***Hotel Forras

  • Day 6 — Esztergom, 58 km
    Pass the Roman fort Kelementia on beautiful embankment paths away from traffic, through farming villages on the Slovakian bank to Stúrovo and Esztergom. ***Hotel Esztergom or similar

  • Day 7 — Visegrád—Budapest, 58 km cycle, 14 km ship
    Ride to the imperial city of Visegrád and then go by ferry on the left bank to Szob and further on through the famous "Danube Knee" to reach the Szentendre island. Journey by S—Bahn to Budapest. ****Hotel Radisson Beke or similar

  • Day 8 — Return Journey
    Extend your stay or return to Vienna by train (Leave Budapest at 9:10, arrive Vienna 12:08). Saturdays, return transport to Vienna is by bus together with bicycle (extra cost for bicycle transport: €30,00 without/€87,00 with insurance). Return transfer of your own bicycle only possible on Saturdays.
