Starting Point and Destination
The holiday town of Sillian (1103 m above sea level) lies on the Austrian/Italian border, 70 minutes by car from Innsbruck. You will leave your car in the private, unguarded car park at the hotel while you ride to your destination of St. Kanzian, a resort on Lake Klopein (455 m). This area has a favored climate, as it lies south of the main Alpine ridge (inner Alpine sunny 'island').
|
Path
Up to 90% paved, occasional adventuresome
hanging bridges (St. Luzia). The path goes
easily downhill near the beginning, levels
off, and continues the rest of the way on
the valley floor.
Infrastructure Parallel regional train tracks to Villach
with good bicycle transport possible; from there, coaches.

Sights
A wonderful holiday landscape accompanies your trip! It offers an interesting contrast of small holiday towns with
famous ones; the solitary Rosen valley with the lovely lakes at the foot of the
wild—romantic Karawanken Mountains (the natural border between Austria and Slovenia).
Cultural highlights are the castle in Lienz with the most significant collection of Egger—
Lienz paintings worldwide, the Renaissance palace Porcia in Spittal/D.,
the city of Villach with its grand old town, or towns with beautiful churches, like Millstatt or Maria Elend.
Also worth mentioning is the Rosegg wild park, the most species—rich in Austria.
