Route
- Day 1 — Arrival
Arrive in Sillian an der Drau. Toll = €10,00. Private car park. Bicycle distribution.
- Day 2 — Bruneck—Pustertal, 48—71 km cycle, 39—57 km train, flat
Ride over the Italian border in beautiful Puster valley on the newly built bicycle path in South Tyrol to Bruneck (or Vintl). Return by train (bicycle ticket payable on location, about €4,00) to San Candido and come back to the hotel.
- Day 3 — Oberdrauburg, 60 km flat
With wonderful views, you ride past Thal to Lienz (castle with painting gallery, magnificent city view). Ride further on to Oberdrauburg, which lies in the middle of the wide Drau valley.
- Day 4 — Spittal/Drau, 51 km flat
Bicycle tour to the medieval town of Greifenburg and on to castle Neustein. Pass by castle Raggnitz to reach one small hill (30 metres increase in elevation), which leads to Spittal an der Drau (Renaissance museum palace Porcia).
- Day 5 — Villach, 38 km flat
Ride past Rothenthurn castle along the Drau until you reach Paternion, then further on to the marble mill to Villach (historical town center, Church of the Holy Spirit, doll and motor vehicle museums, castle complex Landskron 2 km away).
- Day 6 — Lake Ossiach, 50 km flat
Pedal to nearby Lake Ossiach and then to Annenheim through the nature preserve to Bodendorf. Continue further on to Ossiach, to Villach, and to your hotel. Accommodations at previous night's hotel.
- Day 7 — Ferlach—Kirschentheuer, 53 km flat
Ride by Austria.s most diverse animal park on your way to Feistritz. Passing Maria Elend will bring you to the Hollenburg castle and Ferlach, the oldest gunsmithing town (pilgrimage church of Maria Rain).
- Day 8 — Lake Klopein, 43 km flat
A solitary ride along the Drau, through the Rosen valley, and into Kleindorf. Pass Neudenstein castle, the bird sanctuary, and Völkermarkt (town parish church, old town hall, new palace), turning onto side roads that lead you to Lake Klopein.
- Day 9 — Return Journey
After breakfast on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Bus transfer (together with your own bicycle €16,00/€63,00 with insurance) to Sillian, or train journey (four transfers, no bicycle transport).

Cuisine

Facts
From the apex of the Drau and Puster valleys, you will ride gently downhill near Sillian into a bright, sunny valley between 4 and 15 km wide. You will enjoy the proverbial Carinthian hospitality while riding on newly paved bicycle paths. The view of the 3000 m range of the central Alps (Sexten and Lienzen Dolomites) at the beginning of your trip will impress and astound you, as well as the sweetness of the Carinthian lakes. Near the end of your trip you will be amazed at the isolated valleys, like Rosen, found along the way.
